apples!
Plas Bodfa’s grounds include a mixed-apple orchard along the drive, four Worcester Pearmain trees in the paddock and over twenty Bramley trees along the side of the 5-acre field. All well established and productive, we are learning the processes of apple pressing, cider making, pasteurisation, dehydration, storing and so many other ways to use and share our apples.
In 2022 we invested in a pasteuriser, a hydro-press and large apple crusher (scratter) so we have the capacity to process all the fruits on-site. In the last three seasons we’ve produced around 200 litres of apple juice and 200 litres of cider each year!
As part of the Llangoed Harvest Festival we have brought our apple pressing kit down to Llangoed Village Hall for two days of glorious community apple pressing. Its such a joy to help people turn their apples into delicious juice! So many different types of apples are grown throughout Anglesey it’s been fun to see all the varieties.
