Sounds for an Empty House

Soundlands and Plas Bodfa Projects presents:

sounds_house_graphic.jpg

an audio exploration of Plas Bodfa

A 100-year-old manor house, currently empty of human residents, but far from silent. Its structure channels gusty winds through drainpipes, creating baritone whispers. Gaps in the roofing slates allow smaller bursts of air to enter and dissipate softly into echoing voids. A fidgety family of jackdaws inhabits one spacious attic, while bats silently occupy another. Water drips through unseen drains. A panel edged with crackled tape exhales. A vent flaps. Something, somewhere shutters.

Part 1

a 24-hour live-stream

Sounds created by the Plas Bodfa itself and its immediate surroundings were live-mixed, augmented and manipulated by 24 local sound artists and creatives.

sunrise to sunrise June 26th until the 27th, 2021

Part 2

an album with three sides

created by 44 Welsh and International sound artists
in dialogue with an empty house

Each track is a unique and innovative remix, using only recordings from the 24-hour livestream as source material.

Each partner has crafted an album, each in its own style and platform, reimagining ways that sound can connect people to place with a unique audio experience.
