An interview
with Nicola Carter
about her multiple:
'Anglesey Lights’

Where did you make these multiples?

Mostly at home in Liverpool

Any interesting or funny stories in the development of these multiples?

I hadn't really considered Lighthouses at all until I started to visit Anglesey- to realise how beautiful but dangerous the Bay of Liverpool and the Menai are. The first was the Light at Point Lynas- you can get so close to it you can almost hug it and then Penmon where the mournful bell is just a constant. These things are alike in that they are like breaths or heart beats--repeating over and over.

Tell me about your experience with Unus Multorum and/or Plas Bodfa as it relates to your multiples.

As a new artist, Plas Bodfa has been a complete revelation to me.... the vision and drive that Julie and Jonathon possess, the phenomenal creatives I have met, the opportunity to work in the space of the House and then the chance to experience the discipline of trying to produce "multiples" with personal meaning.

You choose to make a certain number of Objects in your edition. Why this number?

I think they chose me-- a new venture and many images didn't seem to be right, so they were probably the maximum I could manage.

Where do you imagine these multiples to end up?

I'd love there to be an image in or near each of the four Lights -and then perhaps simply where they act as a reminder of their beauty and significance

Tell me more about the materials used in your multiple.
Why did you choose this material? What do you like about it?

The first lino print I made was probably only a couple of years ago! My technical experience and skills for making multiples and knowing what is possible is very limited, so I chose something I thought I could manage to repeat. And then to repeat the text that defines each and every Light world wide. But colour is also important to me and I just wanted to make each multiple unique as well.

Why do you make things (in general)?

a drive to express ideas and emotions that has probably been present all my life but only recently learning how to achieve that
